The Dress Code of Mahasukhasiddhi and Others
Viewing all seven images here collected, one can clearly recognize all important aspects of symbolism and dress code that recurs in depictions of many other dakinis and yoginis.
Appearing sky-clad on first sight, an expression that means naked, most of these women/deities are actually fully dressed with the six traditional, bone-made charnel ground ornaments, a fact symbolizing the attainment of the six perfections on the path towards enlightenment.
- a crown of five skulls on her head
- a large rosary of skulls around her shoulders
- an "apron" or "skirt" of carved bones around her waist
- bone bracelets on her upper arms
- bone wristlets on her wrists
- bone anklets on her ankles
Last not least, one should notice the open third eye on most foreheads and the equally open "lower door of the body", otherwise referred to to as "secret center", "inner space", "womb door" or "mystic mandala".
In our section Dakini Yogini Central, there's more information about Mahasukhasiddhi and the charnel ground ornaments.
