The Box of Pandora

Eclectic Reflections by Rufus C. Camphausen

In some Greek myths, Pandora is seen as the very first woman to walk the earth. Although her name means nothing more and nothing less than giver of all, the ancient Greeks created the idea that she had come into being in order to punish humanity (for stealing fire from the Gods).

Thus, one conceived of the notion that Pandora possessed a box full of negativity, disease and evil supposed to spread throughout the world once the box was opened.

However, once the gifted and beautiful lady had opened her box and spilled the goods, the expected diseases were mainly harmful to fundamentalists of all persuasions. Fact is, the myth never states clearly which problems were released from the box ...
but it does say that hope was among them.

With these pages, we thank Pandora for having brought into the world the idea of independant thinking, heresy and free speech, and the medium known as the World Wild Web.
