The 22 Names of Tara
The following list of Tibetan names and translations derives from an image showing the so-called
Assembly of 21 Tara's - emanations or manifestations of the ancient, basic and main goddess
Tara venerated in the Indian tradition as well as the Buddhist one.
Considering that Tara is often known by general names such as White Tara or
Green Tara, the following list is sorted by such skin color rather than alphabetically.
Green Tara
- Jet.sun.dol.ma, incomparable savior, mother of the buddhas
White Tara
- Na.ja.ma, Peahen (?); destroys all forms of poison
- Mi.pan.gyul.ma (?), invincible queen (?)
- Od.zer.chen.ma, rays of light
- Rab.shi.ma, very peaceful
- Yang.chen.ma, Sarasvati; 'consort' to Manjushri
Pale-Pink Tara
- Seng.deng.nag.dol.ma, saviouress of the scented forest
Red Tara

Light Brown Tara

- Nan.chog.ter.ma, giver of supreme virtue; embodiment of the six transcendental perfections

Dark Brown Tara
- Jig.je.ma, terrifier; subdues evil spirits, cures illness caused by evil spirits
