The following names all refer to the principle Grand Ritual of Tantra the aim of which is the attainment of supernatural powers, attunement, bliss, and liberaton. The means to this end are the participants themselves, the eating and drinking of the five ingredients known as makara and especially the (mingled) essences generated through sexual stimulation.

Pancha Makara

Skt., pancamakara; Five Observances

This is the infamous ritual of the Five M which has shocked many Westerners and shamed many an Indian writer on Tantric religion. The observances and/or ingredients of this ritual gathering are the five (Skt., panca) makara.
Traditionally, the Panchamakara is celebrated by at least eight persons; four women and four men. Concerning the ritual, the Kamakhya Tantra says the following: "The true devotee should worship the Mother of the Universe with liquor, fish, meat, cereal and copulation."

Pancha Tattva

Skt., pancatattva; Five Qualities, Five Elements

A term sometimes used as a synonym for Panchamakara, yet the distinction here is the use of not only alcohol but other drugs (for example cannabis) as well; and the focus is clearly on a menstruating women and her menstrual fluid.

Kula Dravya

Skt., kuladravya; Clan Fluid

Among the Kula, this ritual is known as kuladravya, the ritual that centers on the generation of the sacred nectar created by the mingling of male semen, female sexual emmissions and menstrual fluid.

Tattva Chakra

Skt., tattvacakra; Circle of Qualities

Sanskrit name for the Tibetan variety of the Panchamakara; one of several specialized forms of the more general term Gana Chakra.
