Tib., o rgyan bsnyen sgrub
sometimes spelled Ugyen Nyendrup
Most often known by its short name Orgyanpa, this school is one of the Eight Great Chariots of the Practice Lineage. The school's name hints at its founder - Drubtob Orgyenpa Rinchen Pal (grub thob o rgyan pa rin chen dpal), better known as Orgyenpa (1230-1309) - but it also translates as Oddiyana Tradition of Attainment.
According to Tibetan sources, master Orgyenpa once traveled to Uddiyana - the famous region also known as Orgyan and Oddiyana - and received there his teachings in a vision during which the yidam (deity) Dorje Phagmo appeared to him.
Orgyanpa himself, an accomplished siddha (Tib., grub thob), had close ties with the Karma Kamtsang (ka-rma-kam-tshang) lineage. Not only was he a student of the 2nd Karmapa (Karma Pakshi, 1204-1283), but he later became the teacher of Karma Pakshi's new incarnation, the 3rd Karmapa (Rangjung Dorje, 1284-1339).
