Marpa
1012 - 1097- Also simply known as The Translator, Marpa was one of the two foremost students of Naropa. From him, Marpa received both the Chakrasamvara- and Guyasamaja Tantras.
- Apart from his influential work in translating several Indian Tantras into Tibetan, he further influenced the development of Tibetan Buddhism by being the principal teacher of Milarepa.
- Because of the influence Milarepa had on the development of the Dagpo Kagyud, and thus Marpa as well, that lineage is sometimes called Marpa Kagyud.
