In the sacred text solely dedicated to her, the Lalita Sahasranama, she is described as a playful creatrix, as the "supporter of the universe" and as a general ruler of creation, preservation and destruction. In this text, Lalita is featured as a Great Goddess indeed; with a list of 1.000 names among which that of Kali and several other well known deities.

In another text, the Kalika Purana, she is simply one of many yoginis.
