Title translation: The Fight against Wisdom and Might of Egypts Primary, Matriarchal Culture - A Criminal History
In this second book by the author, Doris Wolf succeeds in dismantling the myth so many other Egyptologists
proclaim; namely that ancient Egypt was a highly developed culture. Rather, her study shows that this so-called
culture was not so very different from its contemporaries and neighbors.
All of these, including Egypt, were aggressive agents of change, a change that destroyed matriarchy and its
religions focused on a female deity - the Goddess in Her many guises - and helped establish patriarchy.
In describing and showing us this process, the author also makes evident what we all should know about these
two forms of social cohesion. In matriarchy, a given society is centered on one or more female deities, and it
is guided rather than ruled by the archetype of the wise old woman. In patriarchy, a society is not guided but
ruled by the local alpha-males with the pathological need to dominate all others: men, women, animals - the
whole of nature.
Note:
These are not the author's words but mine - Mrs. Wolf is much more detailed and discriminating in her more
than 300 pages of most interesting text. Although her focus is on ancient Egypt, it is delightful to see her
connect ancient facts with the present situation of the world we all live in.
