Whereas John Stevens explored sexuality within the various streams of Buddhism in his previous work Lust for Enlightenment, this publication attempts to show that the sacred dimension of human sexuality is not limited to the East; but can also found in the African, European, and Native American traditions.
He does so by juxtaposing a great number of examples from Eastern and Western erotic and religious art. It is a mixture that is sometimes stunning, sometimes interesting and sometimes hilarious. From sacred statues to erotic kitsch - this book combines it all.
Personally, what I value most in this work is the bibliography (counting 44 pages); not only a rather complete one but also intelligently subdivided.
